With Kurtis starting Kindergarten, Soccer and Josh & Luke starting preschool, we’ve had lots of fun. I’ve uploaded photos from the last few weeks as well as a few video clips.
Kurtis first soccer game wasn’t so great, but the second game he scored two goals and was mighty proud of himself! Josh and Luke were oblivious as they were a little preoccupied playing in the sand.
Be sure to check out, all the fun.
Yes, it’s true…Kurtis started Kindergarten yesterday. I haven’t quite figured out how that could be possible as I still vividly remember MY first day of Kindergarten. I could hardly sleep the night before because I was so excited to ride the bus. I had a great time on my first day, but I did have a run in with a second grader who threw me off the top of big toy onto the ground (I didn’t tell Kurtis that story). Kayli and I are thankful his first day went smoothly. We both asked him separately how his day was and if he missed us, his answer, “It was great, I didn’t even think about you!” Kayli then prodded him by saying, “What about the picture of me and you that I put in your lunch?” Kurtis’ reply, “Oh, yeah, well that made me think about you, but nothing else.”
Ahh, the life of being a parent.
We also entered the next phase of life…the one that involves sports. It just so happened to coincide with the first day of Kindergarten. Kurtis was disappointed that his first soccer practice didn’t involve playing an actual game, but had a great time!
Kayli and I are enjoying seeing Kurtis get to experience these new phases of life. Although I did watch this video a few weeks back and found that I identified with it way too much!
It’s been a fun summer. Kayli and I have been enjoying the freedom of having “big” boys this summer. I’ve uploaded pictures for our adventures from June through August.
This summer we’ve:
Enjoyed the Farmers’ Day Parade
Explored Stanley Park
Took the boys on their first big hike
Met up with old friends
Enjoyed our $5 BBQ immensely (a great garage sale find)
Ventured to Spokane for a camping trip
Kurtis enjoyed his soccer/VBS camp
Josh and Luke abandoned their training wheels
A day at the waterslides
Spent some quality time at the NW Washington Fair
Kayli and I cannot get over how fast our boys continue to grow and change. Kurtis will be starting Kindergarten in 2 weeks and Josh and Luke will be starting pre-school in a month… crazy!!!

Kayli and I were married 7 years ago today! Over the past 7 years we’ve had the privilege of really experiencing life together. Some people get married, wait years to have kids and ease into trials, Kayli and I have taken the fast-track. Here is a quick summary of the last 7 years:
Been to the tropics and been to the arctic
Eaten whale, seal & herring eggs
Flown across the Tundra
Made incredible friends
Experienced being “broke” and feeling richly blessed
Experienced being “broke” and feeling broke
Learned how to “fight” fair and really listen
Forgot how to fight fair and really listen
Experienced the fear and joy of having our first child
Graduated college
Got my first “real” job
Packed up everything & moved without having a job or home to move into yet
Purchased our first home
Felt the disbelief of finding out we were having twins
Dealt with the fear of knowing the twins may not be born healthy
Learned to cope with separation and distance as Kayli spent months in the hospital with them after their birth
Prayed and cried together as we wondered if our boys would really “make it.”
Cried for others whose experienced the death of a child
Rejoiced in the simple things: getting to hold our boys for the first time, getting to bring them home
Experienced the reality of sleep deprivation as we learned to adjust to have 3 kids under 3 at home
Experienced joy watching our babies turn into little boys
Played “pretend” too many times to count
Changed a ridiculous amount of diapers
Experienced the ups and downs of pursuing a career as a firefighter
Laughed at the funny questions our kids ask
Took our first family camping trip
Took our first family hiking trip
I think the most important thing that we’ve learned though is to trust and hope together. Over the course of the last 7 years we’ve experienced joy and sorrow, tears and laughter, boredom and excitement, but we’ve learned a tremendous lesson. Life is all about trusting God to provide what we need and remaining hopeful, knowing “that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
Kayli surprised me with an awesome trip to Oregon for my birthday. We got a few days away from the kiddos (Thanks Heidi!!!) and had a great time enjoying the sun on the Oregon coast.
